Five Cougars Advance After District Tournament By Marty Allison Dickson Sports Online
Although the Cougars didn't advance as a team after the District 10-AAA golf tournament, five members of the squad qualified on an individual basis for the regional tournament next week in Hendersonville.
On the boys side of the tee, Jeff Kuhns (89), Drew Henry (92), Neil Bratton (93) and Daniel Spencer (102) shot low enough to advance to the next level. Lynn Fuson's 116 was good enough to move on as well.
Clarksville's boys and girls claimed the team titles. The boys shot a 305 and surprised no one with the win. They were followed by Henry County (329) and Rossview (332).
Clarksville's James Brannen tied Henry County's Blake Burton at 74, but Brannen claimed top medalist honors by winning a two-hole playoff.
Players that compete for one of the top three teams advance as a team, leaving the door open for five other players to advance. The other boys individual player is Kenwood's Anthony Diaz (98).
Clarksville pulled the double by winning the girls team title as well. The Lady Wildcats fired a team score of 161, followed by Rossview (166) and Henry County (233).
Shelly Green of Clarksville was the top medalist with a round of 74.
The remaining girls individual's advancing are Amber Blake (130-NW), Katie Yonts (153-NW), Skylar Buchner (147-NE) and Cameron Buchner (150-NE).
The top team and the next five individuals will advance from next week's regional tournament to the AAA State Tournament. |
