DRAGON GOLFERS WIN BATTLE OF UNBEATENS
(vs. Harpeth at Cliff View Sept. 9, 2003)

The Dickson Middle School boys' golf team knocked off previously undefeated Harpeth Tuesday to raise their record to 5-0. The Lady Dragons also won to raise their record to 4-1.

For the Dickson boys, it was the closest match of the season. Led by David Fussell's 23 (one over par for five holes), the Dragons shot 101, 16 shots better than the hosts. Bryan Cannon, Will Petty and Todd Brison each shot 26.

Harpeth, with only sixth and seventh graders playing, recorded a 117 total. Ryan Roberson and Stephen Williams each had 26 as the Indians fell to 7-1. They'll have a shot at revenge when the two teams face off at Dickson Country Club Sept. 22.

The Dickson girls won on the strength of Emily Brogdon's 38. Lauren Spears of Harpeth shot 39, and Deven Fussell of DMS had a 40.

Both Dickson teams are scheduled to play at Waverly Country Club against Lakeview Thursday and then face a tough challenge when Brentwood and Battle Ground Academy's middle school teams visit next Monday (Sept. 15). Next week will be the busiest of the season for DMS as the teams travel to Sycamore Wednesday and play Cheatham County at Eastland Greens in Clarksville on Friday.

DICKSON MIDDLE BOYS SWAMP SYCAMORE
Girls lose close match

The Dickson Middle School boys' golf team picked up right
where they leftoff last year. The Dragons set a school scoring record inbeating Sycamore by 91 strokes Monday at the Dickson Country Club. The Lady Dragons lost by four, but Emily Brogdon of DMS posted the low girls' score with a 34, 10 over par over holes four through nine. It was the 14th straight victory for the DMS boys over the past two years. Dickson went 13-0 in 2002.

Sycamore's Cody Hughes was the medalist with a 27, two over par through the first six holes at DCC.But as was the case last season, the Dragons won with depth. Bryan Cannon
and David Fussell shot 28 each, while Will Petty and Todd
Brison were both one stroke behind. Those four set a new school record, shooting a combined 14 over par (114) in a six-hole match from the gold tees.In the team competition--a six-player format with all scores counting--Dickson recorded a 181 to the visitors' 272.

Middle school coaches typically adjust team competition to fit the number of players. At the high school level, five players compete with the lowest four scores counting. On the girls' side, it was two on two.

Courtney Hunter and Morgan McConnell shot 36 and 42 respectively to edge Brogdon and Deven Fussell by  four strokes.

DMS hosts matches next Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 25 and 26) at the Country Club. Lakeview and traditionally strong Waverly visit Monday, while McEwen comes to town Tuesday.

The streak lives.
The Dickson Middle School boys' golf team continued its unbeaten string in August, raising their record to 4-0.

The Dragons again set a new school record, with the four lowest players shooting a collective six-over par over 24 holes. They have won 17 straight over the past two years. The DMS girls also won three times to raise their record to 3-1.

August 25, Dickson's boys got two even par scores from David Fussell and Todd Brison to beat Waverly and Lakeview. Usual number one Bryan Canon would have shot even par except for a two-stroke penalty on one hole. He is still the top golfer for DMS statistically. Will Petty shot a 29, but came back the next day for a 27 and the medalist spot against McEwen.

Deven Fussell led the Lady Dragons against Lakeview and Waverly with a 37, 13 over par. She and Emily Brogdon combined for a 75 to beat Waverly by nine strokes and Lakeview by 19. Brogdon was medalist against McEwen with a 30, five over par.

DMS was rained out last week, missing matches at McEwen and Waverly. Both teams were scheduled to face Harpeth at Cliff View yesterday (Sept. 9) and Lakeview at Waverly Country Club Thursday. Dickson takes on BGA and Brentwood September 15, travels to Sycamore two days later, and ends the week against Cheatham County at Eastland Greens in Clarksville.
