HANSON LEADS AFTER FIRST ROUND AT WOMEN'S TENNESSEE OPEN (Dickson) Pro Shannon Hanson (Sulphur, LA) shot a two-under par 70 today at GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson to take the first round lead at the 5th Annual Fluffo/Coca-Cola Women's Tennessee Open Championship. Hanson had four birdies on the front nine in route to her first round 70. Two strokes back is Pro Bobbi Salmon (Mt. Dora, FL) and there is a trio of players three strokes behind the lead. Defending Champion Courtney Wood (Brentwood, TN) shot an opening round three-over par 75 and is tied for eighth place. The Women's Tennessee Open is one of fourteen state championships that the Tennessee Golf Association conducts annually. JACOBS CAPTURES 2003 FLUFFO/COCA-COLA WOMEN'S TENNESSEE OPEN IN PLAYOFF Courtesy of Tennessee Golf Association (Dickson) Sarah Jacobs (Whites Creek, TN) parred the first playoff hole to beat Pro Melanie Hagewood (Clarksville, TN) at the 5th Annual Fluffo/Coca-Cola Women's Tennessee Open Championship which was conducted at GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson. To get into the playoff Jacobs fired a final round four-under par 68 and Hagewood shot a final round 70 which included a double bogey and a triple bogey. First round leader Pro Shannon Hanson shot a final round 78 to finish out of contention. Jacobs, who won the Women's Tennessee Amateur Championship at Black Creek Club in June, becomes the first person to capture both the Women's Tennessee Amateur and Women's Tennessee Open in the same year. 5th ANNUAL FLUFFO/COCA-COLA WOMEN'S TENNESSEE OPEN TO GET UNDERWAY ON JULY 15th (Franklin) The 5th Annual Fluff/Coca-Cola Women's Tennessee Open will be conducted July 15-16 at GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, TN. 38 professionals from around the country and 28 amateurs from Tennessee and states bordering Tennessee will compete for the title of 2003 Women's Tennessee Open Champion. The event which began in 1999 has been held at the Mark McCumber designed GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson since inception. Defending champion Courtney Wood (Brentwood, TN) is back to defend her title after setting the Women's Tennessee Open scoring record last year with a 36-hole total of 142 (2 under par). Also competing this year is Wood's Vanderbilt University teammate Sarah Jacobs (Whites Creek, TN) who just weeks ago captured her second consecutive Tennessee Women's Amateur Championship at Black Creek Club. A Pro-Am benefiting Nashville-based charity You Have the Power will take place at GreyStone Golf Club on Monday, July 14th. Last year the Pro-Am raised over $7,000 for You Have the Power, whose mission is to increase awareness and prevention of violent crimes.
